The Excelsior Springs Civil Air Patrol (CAP), founded in 2016, recently held an open house for those interested in recruitment. “CAPs mission is supporting America’s communities with emergency response, diverse aviation, ground services, youth development and promotion of air, space and cyber power through aerospace education,” said Deputy Commander of Cadets Shelia Caven. CAP in Excelsior Springs provides youth with opportunity to interact and participate in a military-based organization, giving them an advantage in future leadership opportunities or a military career if they choose, said Craven. “The Cadet (youth) side of the program is 100 percent Cadet led and ran,” he said.
