Clay County Prosecuting Attorney Thompson announces jury indictment

This past Tuesday, Excelsior Springs felon Timothy Haslett, 40, was indicted to the grand jury by Clay County Prosecuting Attorney Zachary Thompson on Haslett’s nine felony counts. The felonies include one count of rape in the first degree, four counts of sodomy in the first degree, one count of kidnapping in the first degree, two counts of assault in the second degree and one count of endangering the welfare of a child. The range of punishment for these offenses is carried up to five life sentences and 36 years of incarceration. The case has been assigned to Division 4 and will now be heard on Feb. 17 at 9 a.m. The Court has set Haslett’s bond at $3 million set by Clay County Associate Circuit Judge David Chamberlain. One way that cases can be brought in Missouri is by a grand jury. A trial jury and grand jurors are selected from a random pool of the community.
