O’Dell Cabin to receive dedication

The Osage Daughters of the American Colonist (DAC) will honor Lettis Clevenger O’Dell with a dedication ceremony at the O’Dell Cabin at 2 p.m. Oct. 15 at the Golf Course Pavilion, located at 1201 Golf Hill Drive. The Excelsior Springs-based DAC, organized on April 29, 1987, has a primary focus of celebrating patriotism while engaging in historical and educational projects. “The cabin dedication is one example of the DAC’s commitment to history,” said Estella Morrison, a long-time DAC member. Funds used for the dedication came from the National Society Daughters of the American Colonists through a sponsored competition and “among the Missouri chapters, the Osage chapter was the winning entry receiving the $1,000 reward.” Morrison explained that although the cabin had been dedicated before, this would be the first time anyone had recognized Lettis, who gave birth and raised children at the cabin.
