Young local athlete competes nationally

Cian Miller, a tri-sport athlete and Lewis Elementary school third grader, recently participated in the Junior Olympics in Des Moines, Iowa, with KC Fire Track Club out of Liberty. KC Fire Track Club, a nonprofit youth track and field association for athletes aged eight to 18 years old, is affiliated with the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) and USA Track and Field organizations allowing competitors to qualify in events to compete at a national level, including the Junior Olympics. Cian’s father, Josh, explained he got involved with the club because he was a junior college All-American athlete participating in track and field events such as shot put, discus and hammer throw. “It has always been my dream for my son to get involved,” said Josh. “When Cian was old enough, I found KC Fire Track Club.” Once he introduced Cian to the club, there was also an opportunity for Josh to coach.
