ES boys produce three runners-up at home tourney

On Jan. 7, 14 schools tested their wrestling mettle at the Excelsior Springs Tiger Classic at the high school. The Tigers showed enough mettle to produce three second-place finishes, two fifth-place finishes, two sixth-place finishes, two seventh-place finishes and a 10th-place finish in their home tournament. Cooper Collins, a first-year high schooler; Hunter Scoma and Anthony Circo, both sophomores, were Excelsior Springs’ runners-up. Collins took second in the 113-pound class by going 4-1, with three wins by fall and a win by technical fall before dropping the championship match by an 8-3 decision to Kearney’s Ryder Shelton. Scoma went 4-1, with three wins by fall and a win by decision before dropping the 175 championship match to Belton’s Zach Attebury by a 3-0 decision. Circo placed second at 165. Gaige Carr, a first-year high schooler, placed fifth at 138 by going 2-3, with two wins by decision. Junior Gage Peterie also placed fifth, going 1-4 at 144, with his victory…
