At press time, the Tigers were preparing to play Fulton for third place in the Class 4 state tournament Thursday at Sky Bacon Stadium in Ozark. A 3-2 loss in eight innings to Springfield Catholic Wednesday night, also at Sky Bacon, set up the meeting with the Hornets, who lost 5-1 to John Burroughs in Wednesday’s other semifinal. This marks Excelsior Springs’ fifth topfour finish. The Tigers finished in the top four three times as a Class 3A program, placing fourth in 1995, third in 1996 and fourth again in 1999, MSHSAA records state. They placed third in Class 4 in 2018. “We’re excited,” Colson Moore said. “I think we deserve to be down there with all those (final four) teams.
