Hudlemeyer chooses Missouri Valley for athletics, academics
Jaylenn Hudlemeyer is mapping out her post-graduation plans.
The Excelsior Springs senior has committed to wrestling for Missouri Valley College. She’s scheduled to sign her letter of intent to compete for and study at the Marshall-based NAIA school April 9.
Hudlemeyer, who plans to major in secondary education and eventually return to Excelsior Springs to teach and coach, credits much of the success she experienced as a high school wrestler that led her to Missouri Valley to coaches Shaun Marcum, Scott Schwab and Brock Nessa.
“Shaun Marcum was the first person to introduce me to wrestling and talked me into giving it a try,” she said.
When Marcum talked Hudlemeyer into trying the sport, she “did not know much about wrestling,” she acknowledged.
“I was not very good my first year, but Schwab and Nessa never gave up on me – and they have taught me many lessons that I will take with me not only to the collegiate level but also into my life,” Hudlemeyer said.
