The Excelsior Springs Fire Department (ESFD) responded to a request for mutual aid on a recent structure fire near Iris Avenue, in the Wood Heights Fire Department (WHFD) district. “We were dispatched for manpower on a detached garage fire,” said ESFD Assistant Chief Cameron White. Lawson Fire Department was also dispatched to help with water on the scene and Ray County Sheriff’s Office responded to provide traffic control. Although the fire was located within the WHFD district, reports say the department did not respond and ESFD was the first to arrive on the scene. As of press time, WHFD had not commented on the situation. White said the fire was determined to be unintentional and the detached garage is estimated to be a total loss. There were no reported injuries from civilians or fire personnel.
