Honace Dace

Honace Dace, 102, of Excelsior Springs passed away April 27, 2024. A visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 4, at Hidden Valley Funeral Home of Excelsior Springs. A funeral will then be held at 11 Saturday, also at Hidden Valley, with a graveside service to follow at Crown Hill Cemetery, Excelsior Springs. “Dace,” as he was known to friends, was born in 1922 to Allen and Stella Dace in Ellington, the second of five children.

He was proud of his military service in the U.S. Navy at Pearl Harbor. He proudly wore his World War II cap any time he went out.

He owned a small grocery store in St. Louis after the war. During the 1950s, he moved to Southern California.

When he went to work for Douglas Aircraft, he met his future wife, Arbuta. They were married in 1967. They retired from McDonnell-Douglas in 1977 and moved to Excelsior Springs.

He loved gardening, fishing, hunting, learning new things and “tinkering.” His family and friends were most important to him. He would do anything for anybody.

In addition to his parents, Allen and Stella Dace, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Amos and Bob Dace; and sister Wanda Flowers.

Survivors include his wife, Arbuta Dace; daughter, Pamela Hearn; grandson, Kyle Mason; and great-granddaughter, Alyssa Mason, all of Excelsior Springs. Other survivors include his brother, Pete Dace of Millstadt, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews.
