Local man arrested on felony weapons charge
A call to Excelsior Springs Police regarding a domestic disturbance, has ended with a local man behind bars.
An Excelsior Springs man is facing a felony weapons charge has been arrested for a felony weapon charge.
Jeffrey K. Merriman, 50, is facing one felony unlawful possession of a firearm and a misdemeanor fourth-degree domestic assault charges. He was served with a warrant and arrested on March 7 with a bond of $20,000.
Merriman appeared before Seventh Judicial Circuit Court Judge Louis Angles earlier this week for an arraignment hearing. Merriman entered a not-guilty plea and was advised by Judge Angles to immediately apply for a public defender.
According to reports, five Excelsior Springs Police Department (ESPD) officers were dispatched to a residence following a report of a domestic disturbance involving a firearm.
The victim stated she laid down with Merriman to keep him calm and when she got up to clean, he became angry, according to police.
