Plane crashes in soybean field
A Kansas man was pronounced dead on the scene of a Kearney plane crash last week.
Alan Doug Moler, 79, of Valley Center, was killed when the plane he was piloting crashed in a field near N.E. 150th Street and Cordell Street on July 20.
According to reports, Clay County Dispatch received a 911 call around 9:37 a.m. Upon arrival at the scene, the plane was found to be fully engulfed in flames and resting in a soybean field.
It was determined Moler was the only person on board the plane.
“Immediately before the crash, the plane had taken off from the Midwest Regional Air Center, a Clay County-owned airport at 13106 Rhodus Road in Mosby, located a short distance from the crash scene,” said Clay County Sheriff’s Office Public Relations Manager Sarah Boyd. “The plane is a privately owned twin-engine Piper aircraft. It had just fueled up and had 140 gallons of fuel on board, which contributed to the fire.”
Moler was en route to an airport in Wichita, Kan., according to authorities.
