Tigers feel bite of Bulldogs in boys wrestling dual defeat
Kearney spoiled Excelsior Springs’ hopes of a Senior Night victory when the schools met Jan. 11.
The Tigers struggled, picking up only one win on the mat and winning two others by forfeit, falling 52-18.
Sophomore Hunter Scoma picked up Excelsior Springs’ lone on-the-mat win with a first-period pin of Blake Magnusson in the 157-pound division. Scoma scored a takedown and a near fall before pinning Magnusson.
Junior Micah Danner picked up a forfeit win at 126 and sophomore Ryne Marcum snagged a forfeit win at 132 because Kearney was open at those weights.
In other results, sophomore Wyett Shipman dropped his match at 106 by fall to Peyton Lee. First-year high schooler Cooper Collins battled Ryder Shelter, a Class 3 state champion, before dropping a 10-5 decision at 113.
At 120, sophomore Dominick Betts dropped a 4-1 decision to Caden Underwood. Neither wrestler scored during the first two periods. Underwood scored a near fall and a takedown for his points. Betts scored his point…
