Youthful, yet experienced Tigers take to diamond
Excelsior Springs will field a varsity softball team that’s young in grade level, but not in experience.
Nor will that team be lacking in fight, according to coach Megan Gilbertson.
“We are going to be a young and energetic team that will play for each other and never give up,” Gilbertson said.
The Tigers return 10 players with varsity experience from their 12-16 season of 2022. Much of that returning experience will be at pitcher.
Excelsior Springs has four hurlers: Bailey Carder, Keira Romazon, Kayden Rogers and Jenna Thomas. Carder, a senior, returns after an injuryshortened junior year limited her to just five games played in 2022. Romazon, Rogers and Thomas are sophomores. Romazon was 6-1 with a 3.36 earned run average last fall.
To control the pitching staff, Gilbertson will look to three catchers: Chloe Carlyle, Josie Casler and Willa Schreier. Carlyle, a senior, was a firstteam Greater Kansas City Suburban Conference-Blue Division selection at first base in 2022, batting …
